If you’re dreaming of a small, meaningful wedding in London, this intimate Islington Town Hall wedding might be exactly the kind of inspiration you’re looking for.
Scarlett and Matthew chose to keep their legal ceremony simple — just the two of them and their two closest friends. No big guest list, no pressure, just a moment that felt completely true to them.
A Small Civil Wedding at Islington Town Hall
Located in North London, Islington Town Hall is one of the most beautiful places for a civil ceremony. With its elegant interiors and charming surroundings, it offers the perfect setting for couples who want something classic but still relaxed.
Scarlett and Matthew booked what’s known as a “you + two” ceremony — meaning only the couple and their two witnesses were present inside. It created such an intimate atmosphere, focused entirely on the moment itself.
Because of this, I joined them just after the ceremony to capture everything that followed — the part of the day where it all really sinks in.
We started with a few photos inside the town hall, making the most of the soft light and clean, timeless architecture. Then we stepped outside for a small confetti moment — simple, fun, and always one of my favourite parts to photograph.
From there, we took a short walk around Islington and the Angel area, one of my favourite neighbourhoods in London for couple portraits. The mix of city textures, quiet streets, and natural movement makes it perfect for relaxed, documentary-style photos.
They didn’t want anything overly posed or staged. They wanted their photos to feel natural — just like the day itself.
So instead of directing too much, I focused on letting moments unfold. Walking, talking, laughing — those in-between moments that feel the most real.
Even though it was just the four of them, the energy felt so full. It never felt like a “small” wedding — just a really meaningful one.
Planning an Intimate Islington Town Hall Wedding
More and more couples are choosing to separate their legal ceremony from their bigger celebration — and honestly, it makes so much sense.
It allows you to have a quiet, personal moment just for you, remove the pressure of a big audience, and focus on what actually matters, while still celebrating fully later with friends and family.
Scarlett and Matthew chose exactly that — keeping their legal ceremony just for themselves and their two closest friends, before their larger celebration later in the year. It was simple, relaxed, and completely meaningful.
If you’re considering a small civil wedding in London, Islington Town Hall is such a beautiful option — especially for couples who want something intimate but still stylish.
Whether you’re planning a “you + two” ceremony or something slightly bigger, there’s so much you can do around the area afterwards for relaxed, natural photos.
If you’re planning your own Islington Town Hall wedding or an intimate London ceremony, I’d love to hear more about your plans.
My approach is always focused on capturing your day in a way that feels natural and true to you — not staged, not forced, just honest moments.
